How I clean my makeup brushes

I have a ton of makeup brushes. I'm a bit obsessed! These aren't even all of them, but I use these the most. I get lazy sometimes and take a while to wash them. When I don't wash them and it's obvious they are dirty, there is a 80% chance I end up with a blemish. I am currently in hiding with a cluster on my forehead!

Being as I am a bit frugal, I will not shell out the $$$ for the makeup brush cleaner solution which is like $15 for a bottle I practically finish in one use. I proudly make my own and it works just fine. I have tried other homemade cleaning solutions and this one has just worked the best with my skin. Once I clean my brushes the blemishes seem to clear up pretty quickly.

You'll need: 1 cup of warm water, 1 tsp of Antibacterial dish soap (I'm using a bigger measuring spoon in the picture, but I didn't fill it up.)  1 tbsp of white vinegar

Stir it up really well.

Swirl your brush in the solution.

Squeeze the bristles firmly to wring out excess solution and grime.

Already looking clean!

Swirl the brush in your palm, you should see sudsy bubbles and old makeup. Rinse under cold water spreading the bristles under water, then swirl in your palm again. Repeat over and over until there are no more bubbles. ( Never flip your brush with bristles up, you will get water inside the base of the bristles and your brush will start falling apart and shedding everywhere. Always keep it bristles down.) I also use a Clorox wipe on the handle of the brush.

Roll up a small towel.

Set up paper towels and set your brush to dry at an incline, it helps that extra water come down as it dries.

With eye brushes I do 2 at a time.

You can see all the grime coming off when I swirl in my palm. Repeat all other steps.

Voila you got clean brushes!

All really great brushes, honestly the best I have ever used, compared to other expensive brands.

Hope this works out for you!! If you have a different way of brush cleaning share in the comments below!

  6. It's a wonderful idea. I would try making it, too. Brush cleansers can be too much for the pocket sometimes. SIGH!!!
