Books Your Child Will Want to Read Again and Again

I wanted my boys to develop a love for books early on, so I began reading to them while they were still in the womb. I had heard/read somewhere that the sound of my voice or daddy's voice was soothing to them, so we figured why not just read. We continued that tradition with every child and it worked because all 3 of them have a crazy love for books. When we go into a store the first place they ask to look at is the books. My older 2 are starting to outgrow some books so I wanted to share them with you before I forget what they are.

This book is so special to me. This book was Abram's very first favorite book. I can't even tell you how many times a day he would ask me to read it to him. I used to use a very fun voice and he found that hilarious. The little boy in the book reminded me a lot of Abram so my husband and I used to tell him He was Wizzy Foot. This is one of Eli's faves as well. The pictures are very colorful and the storyline is easy for children to understand. Although the book is old, Amazon still carries this book here.

Oh Huggle Buggle Bear how my boys have loved you! We have 2 copies of this book because Abram accidentally ripped one when he was little and got excited. Both boys have loved this book and I am hopeful Josiah will as well. The storyline is about a child looking for her favorite stuffed bear. The pictures are vivid and colorful. Great night time book! Find this one here.

"If I cuddled a hippo, he might just squash me!" We got plenty of laughs from this book. All the reasons why you should not cuddle dangerous animals are in here, but in the cutest way possible. So requested every night that it just never went back on the shelf. This book is short and sweet and beautifully illustrated. Find this one here.

This book I know is a favorite by many moms. I'm sure if you have kids you have heard of this one already, but if you are a new mom this book is a must have! The storyline follows a baby growing and how much the mother loved her baby that she rocked him every night even after he became an adult and moved out! I was so happy that this one was a favorite of my boys because I loved reading it. Disclosure: you will probably shed a tear or ten! Find this one at most Wal-Marts or Targets or here.

If you are familiar with children's books I'm sure you have heard of Mercer Mayer he's the author of the Little Critter Series which is also some of my boy's favorites, but not as requested as this one. This book is so humorous. A brave boy confronts a monster alligator under his bed and locks him in the garage. If you read it in a fun voice your child will love this one too. Not scary at all. Find this one here.

It all started with the first one, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, then it just became the whole series! Each one of these books is fun and entertaining. As soon as we finish reading one, the next one gets handed to me. We love these and my favorite has got to be the Pig! These are found in stores individually, but you can also find them in sets if you keep a look out. I bought them through Abram's school when he was in Kindergarden and Scholastic sells them the cheapest here.

We found Knuffle Bunny at a Goodwill one day literally brand new for 79 cents. Eli loved all the pictures and couldn't wait to take it home. It became an instant classic. Requested every single day. This one is about a little girl's love for he stuffed bunny and how it leads her to speak her first word. I have never spotted this one at a Target or Wal-Mart, but I found it here the cheapest.

One of Abram's first books he checked out from the library was Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! He thought it was the funniest book ever! We all did. We noticed it was from the same author as Knuffle Bunny, so we bought the whole set from the book orders at school. Sometimes Abram reads them to Eli in an even funnier voice than I do, it's so much fun! Any kid at any age will love these books. Definitely must haves! Find them here.

Thank you for being my friend is also a Goodwill find. I actually chose this book for them when Abram was having trouble sleeping. It's an easily understood book that makes night time fears seem silly. He liked it and it seemed to help bring some perspective to his night terrors. I know this won't be too easy to find, but there is a few copies here.

I make it a point to read the Bible to the boys. I want them to know about God and all those wonderful stories written in the Bible, but lets face it, sometimes the bible is not too fun for kids. So when I notice they are not really into the story I am reading, I whip out The Rhyme Bible. Same stories just told in a fun way. They love this one and it is very well requested. If you want to introduce Bible stories to your kids I highly recommend this one. Found here.

That's our list for now. I'm sure over time the list will grow with newer favorites of the kids and mine. Hope you enjoy this list! Let me know if you and your children have read any of these in the comment section below.

  3. I love children's books! So many of these are so good. I remember reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series to my younger sibs. :-) Now that I am pregnant, and expecting my first baby in less than six months, I have realized that I have hardly any children's books! My parents have a huge collection, and we read a lot when we were growing up, but children's books are something I just never grab at thrift stores or garage sales. I tend to just pick up books that interest me or hubs. That has got to change! I still have time to build up my collection before baby gets here, and the first thing I need to do is buy another bookshelf! Ha ha!
