6 Month Paleo Update

Despite how embarrassing these pictures are for me, I wanted to share my weight loss update with you.
In July I shared here that I was starting back up on my paleo way of living. I had done Paleo in the past and I loved how quickly I was able to drop weight, how energized I felt and how I didn't even feel like it was a diet. Paleo just became a way of life for my family and I.
I stopped paleo while I was pregnant with Josiah, honestly because I couldn't control my urges to eat everything in sight! Well low and behold I gained a whopping 50 lbs during my pregnancy all because I could not put down the Whopper! I was obsessed with Burger King- now I can't even smell it. My last week of pregnancy I was weighing 180 lbs.

After Josiah was born I did not give myself a hard time about losing the weight right away because I had bigger fish to fry with Josiah getting pneumonia and then going through castings for his clubfoot.
However when I realized he had a dairy allergy I felt it was time to buckle down and eat healthy so my precious boy would not have any added stress to his little stomach. I am so happy to say that going Paleo did help him a lot.

I  started out weighing 155 lbs back in July and today I am weighing 125 lbs. During the holidays I cheated A L O T, simply because I can not pass up my mother's Honduran tamales and paella! (Insert happy dance here,) seriously the best food ever!!! I stuck to my Paleo way, for the most part, for the last 6 months. I went on long walks around 2 miles daily, in the Summer, once Fall hit I got cold and would only go like 3 times a week. I also stopped eating past 7 pm and if I got hungry I had some celery with sunbutter or a banana with sunbutter or just a handful of nuts and a glass of water. Most of all I was mentally determined.

I have to admit I am very proud of my accomplishment. I not only feel like I look a whole lot better in the right picture (which was taken Sunday night), but I feel good physically. I feel healthy!
It has been really cold here, but I can not wait for it to warm up a bit so I can start going on long walks with the boys again. My goal now is not to lose more weight, but to maintain my weight and build muscle, being as having 3 babies left me a lot of extra skin everywhere that I need to tighten.

If you are thinking that weight loss is one of your new year's resolutions, I recommend you trying out Paleo. Keep in mind this is not a short term diet, this becomes a way of life. You eat real food. You feel great. Your skin looks great. You look great and you somehow get a better attitude about life.
I hope my story is motivating for someone and you go out there and live a healthier life. Don't continue to make excuses for yourself. Every day that goes by is a new day to love yourself and take care of your body. If you have a bad day, pick up the next day on the right foot, just keep going!

I do however need to loose weight so it is something that has passed my mind and seeing your results is motivating! I hope you continue towards your goal of tightening up this year, keep it up!

  5. this is awesome! congrats, and you look amazing! I have done the whole 30 (sort of like paleo) on and off during my pregnancy, but it's way too hard to keep up with all my cravings/wanting to eat ALL THE TIME. I want to get started again in 9 weeks when my daughter is born, but I'm concerned with all the meal prep since she's going to be born with bilateral clubfoot as well. are there any go-to recipes you make a lot that you can make ahead of time & freeze? or any meals that you felt were especially easy to throw together?

    1. Yes, pregnancy cravings are so tough to yield! I actually never really had to do meal prep. I made sure to always keep lots of fresh veggies from farmers market and fruit on hand. I would throw a form of protein in the oven or rotisserie or even the crock pot and cook up some quick veggies like sauteed squash or make a salad. I also kept hard boiled eggs in the fridge. Nuts are a good go to for a filling snack. Sunbutter with apples, banana or celery helped a lot too. I have a few recipes already on the blog if you search Paleo, but I will be adding more so stay tuned! Thanks for reading and I can't wait to see pictures on instagram of your precious baby girl!! :)

  9. You are a beautiful in both pictures but I know ALL about needing to feel comfortable in your own body and I'm not there yet! I LOVE how you committed to something and stayed with it! I'll definitely check out paleo - I prefer a lifestyle way of eating rather than just a quick diet.

    like in most diets.
I'm using the paleo grub cookbook, you can check it out at http://lookingupstuff.com/weightloss/2015/04/23/paleo-grubs/
