19 Months and Counting

The time has come to give you a Josiah update! My little man is a whopping 19 months people. Where the heck did time go!? I feel like just yesterday I held those curly feet for the first time, yet here we are straight little feet that drive me crazy every day.

Let me say Josiah is  a handful! He is always getting into trouble touching things he shouldn't and climbing onto places he shouldn't. I honestly believe he is the reason I hurt my back. I am constantly chasing after this little mischief maker and it's exhausting!

Although he is not yet walking on his own, Josiah is very active and loves running around pushing his walker. He stands for long periods of time so we know it has nothing to do with his feet not being corrected properly. Honestly at this point I am dreading the walking. It's so much to look out for already that I am terrified that when he walks I won't be able to keep up with all the shenanigans.

On both his feet his middle toe is overlapped by his other toes, but the doctors don't believe it will be an issue. I stay hopeful that it won't cause future issues or surgeries. I use Aquaphor to massage his legs and feet daily during his stretches, so he has really soft feet and no problems with stinky or peely toes. He likes to stick them in my face, it's actually really funny! 😄 Prior to Josiah feet were so icky to me and now I am just obsessed with his little feet.

He likes to crawl around with only one sock on for most of the day, but eventually takes off the other. I really think he hates socks. Not to mention shoes, he just flings them off. He has even been fighting me about the boots at night. He truly just loves being barefoot.

We have had no real setbacks in his treatment and have been truly blessed to have come this far and say that. I know many mothers have tough times with casting, bracing and even doctors, but we have had a smooth journey so far. I think I worry more than I should about him- only because I am such a moms mom. I hate to say it, but I hover. I worry so much that I will miss something and he will regress.  I just want him to have the best possible life.

If you are just starting your journey with clubfoot I know how you feel. You are worried, you are scared, you stay up late hours thinking up crazy scenarios in your head. You wonder if your child will have pain, if they will be okay, if their is any easier way to fix their feet. Let me ease your mind by saying that the Ponseti treatment is the way to go. The only other way is going through multiple corrective surgeries and I believe that would be so much more painful and tough on you both.

Casting is a hard adjustment, but you will get through it. Bracing is so hard those first few weeks, the lack of sleep is depleting, but you will get through it. You and your baby will get through it and then you will be chasing after them because of all the trouble they are getting into! Trust me, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just have a little faith and don't give up. Take a step at a time and you will get there together.

  1. Awww this just made my day to read Josiah's update! I'm so happy he is doing well! His little baby feet are just the cutest! <3 Easton is constantly taking shoes and socks off, too! He flings them off in the car everywhere we go and I'm always searching all over for them since now it's so cold here. :)

    1. Thanks Erin! Yes, Josiah is such a flinger as well. It's been so cold here that his toes always get so cold as well. Someone needs to invent something to keep shoes and socks on.
