The Paleo Way

I started eating the Paleo way before getting pregnant with Eli. I loved it. It was not an easy way of eating in the beginning because my body took a little while to adjust, but after training my stomach and mind, it was the best way I had ever eaten.
Paleo is basically eating the foods our ancestors ate thousands of years ago. The foods that were available to hunters and gatherers such as meat, fish, nuts, seeds fruits and vegetables. Over time people and technology have developed new forms of food such as grains, dairy and processed foods which are not easy on our digestive system. Paleo is a diet that provides our body with healthy fats that give us energy and our bodies digest more efficiently. This diet avoids all grains, legumes, dairy, processed foods, alcohol and starches.
When I was on this diet I felt great! I had so much energy. I could go on walks or jogs with Luis and Abram and come back feeling energized not tired or lazy. It helped me drop 25 lbs the healthy without feeling starved. It was awesome. Unfortunately when I got pregnant I ended up cheating a few times, I blame it on pregnancy cravings! So since then I had been gradually reverting back to old eating habits, and well now I don't feel as great as I did back then and I'm not as fit as I was.
Recently I found out Josiah has a food intolerance. I nurse him so whatever I eat can have a negative effect on his little stomach. I figured out it was a dairy intolerance. His poop was green and mucousy so I went to Dr. Google who informed me I need to cut dairy and soy out of my diet because these were the main culprits in babies intolerance. It also said these foods can cause baby eczema and fussy gassy babies, which Josiah had pretty much all those symptoms. So I cut it from my diet. It seemed to help for a little bit, his poops went back to a yellow color and mucous went away. Well last week I noticed it was back to green and mucousy, and I had not been eating dairy, so the next step would be to cut grains. By cutting grains and dairy I was pretty much almost Paleo again, so why not go back all the way.
As of yesterday I am eating Paleo again. I know it'll help Josiah's little digestive system as well as help me feel healthy and shed the rest of my baby weight. Above I've listed some of the cookbooks I have  to help me plan my meals and figure out new ways to cook. I'm so excited for this new change and can't wait to see the positive results. If you have a favorite Paleo recipe or cookbook, please share it!
I hope everyone has a great week!

With and Without Castings

Sorry the pix are a bit blurry, once his casts are off he loves kicking away!

Such a cute little stare!

Yesterday Josiah had his casts changed. He wears the fiberglass kind of casts so we are able to take them off here at home and get him in the bath before going to get his new set. Its awesome because he loves his weekly baths. He loves kicking his feet in the water, it really is the cutest thing, he really melts my heart! He cries so much when I get him out of the bath, I have to nurse him every time just to calm him down. We thought this weeks casts would be his last set, but the Dr is going to do one more set just to be sure his surgery will work the way it should. Casting days are a bit tough on us because it takes Josiah a bit to adjust to the new foot position. Last night I broke down and gave him Tylenol. He's a real mamas boy on days like that, he just wants to be held or nursing, but I don't mind!
Well hope everyone has an exciting weekend, summer is going by so fast!

Sleep Like A Baby!!??

Why do people say "I slept like a baby"? Babies don't sleep! Does that mean you didn't sleep at all then? Well I haven't in 2 months! (Yawn!!) The most I've slept lately is an hour and a half stretch. Josiah will fall asleep and then wake up 2 hours later to eat, poop, eat again, burp and finally go back to sleep. He then wakes up 2 hours later to do it all over again. Haha. This morning he woke up at 4am and decided to stay awake until Luis got home at 7:30am. By then I had tried everything to get him to go back to sleep, but he just wanted to talk, fuss and talk some more. At 6:30am I gave up and set a pot of coffee! Abram woke up by then and asked for breakfast.

I burnt 4 slices of toast before I finally got it right! Haha!! Luckily eggs, bacon and potatoes came out fine. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! I'm just here to clarify if you had a good night's sleep, you probably didn't sleep like a baby. You most likely won't need 3 cups of coffee before 7am and unless your not paying attention, your toast will probably come out right the first time around!
I know, being a mom sounds exhausting, but honestly I have somehow been pulling through. Now when I was a first time mom I cried on these types of nights. I wondered what it would be like to run away or be anywhere but home with Abram. (Sorry baby..) Now being a third time mom my views are so different. There is honestly no place I would rather be. Sleep is for wussies! This time in his life really will go by before I know it and I find myself being a lot more calm and a lot less cranky. I came across this on Pinterest and it helps me on days like these.

If you are a tired momma just keep in mind they don't mean to stay awake and drive you crazy. They don't wake up and plot their tantrums around your sleep time. And they definitely will grow out of it! Though it may seem there is no end in sight, the sleepless nights really don't last forever. If you are not a coffee drinker you probably will take up drinking some during this time. If you're used to getting Starbucks every time you want coffee, you better hire yourself a barista because I don't recommend you driving with no sleep! All in all despite your cognitive brain function being at a minimum, try to soak in your baby's snuggles, smiles, baby talk and yes, even his cries. They will never need you like this again.
Hope everyone had better sleep then a baby!

Boys Photoshoot

My sister gifted us a Newborn photoshoot for Josiah 15 days after he was born. It was sooooo much work! I'm surprised, our awesome photographer Roxanne, had so much patience with our brood of wiggle worms! Well the ending product came out beautiful! I absolutely love them! I asked her to emphasize on his clubfeet because when he is older I want him to see how his feet were and how perfect he was regardless of clubfoot. Babies are so beautiful at this age. I never did newborn photos with Abram and Eli, and now I regret it! If you are teetering on whether to do it with you little newbie, DO IT!! You never get those moments of them brand new again and at least you have them mounted on your wall somewhere in your house to look at daily. I cannot wait to have these blown up.

Josiah is 2 months now and growing like a weed. He eats ALL day! We are literally attached most of the day. He's great though. I love being his mommy and being around to witness his smiles and cooing. He will be getting his last set of casts this week before his achilles tenotomy in 2 weeks where his heal cord will be released. As a mommy I am so nervous to have him go through anesthesia and surgery so soon in his life, but I know its for the best and I can't wait to just get it over with. There will be a lot of love, hugs and cuddles going around after that. My poor baby.
Have a great day and keep tuning in for our clubfoot journey!
