Gratitude Jar

November is my favorite month of the year. The anticipation for Thanksgiving just makes me happy. I feel like Thanksgiving is the only holiday where we don't have to buy something for anyone and just enjoy delicious food and the company of loved ones. Pure bliss in my book!

This year I have come up with the idea of getting together with some beautiful women in the blogging family to bring you reasons we are Thankful through Thanksgiving and some fun topics. Be sure to tune in all month long for these posts and follow these ladies on their blogs as well!

Today's post is from Erin who is the writer of  Love Peace Beauty!

November is an especially meaningful time to make gratitude part of our daily practice. Of course, gratitude is important all year but this November I'm going to make it our family focus. It's such an important concept to teach our children both through conversation and action.

Being grateful gives us a new perspective - it opens our eyes up to all of the many blessings around us. It always seems the more we give thanks, the more things we find to be grateful for.

Our family tradition is to have a gratitude jar. A gratitude jar can be put into practice in many different ways. We choose to use our gratitude jar to collect moments we are thankful for throughout the month.

Materials needed:
  • Jar
  • Leaves
  • Marker
These materials were all found at Dollar Tree. We spent a grand total of $3! Now, we have a gratitude memory jar and it's a festive fall decoration for the house!

We started our gratitude jar by writing a few things we are thankful for right now. We will continue to write small moments from each day that we are thankful for and place the leaves in the jar. A good time to reflect might be after dinner or even before putting the children to bed.

This activity opens the door for a conversation about gratitude. Taking time to reflect, reminds us about the small things each day we have to be thankful for. Then, we will read our jar of grateful memories on Thanksgiving Day!

This year, I have so much to personally be grateful for - family, friends, and good health. I have two little boys and a husband who bring me so much joy each day. I say prayers of thanksgiving each day that they are healthy and happy! I am also very grateful for the opportunity to buy our new family home this year. I'm thankful for the wonderful opportunity to integrate my stay-at-home-mom life and sharing my motherhood joys through blogging. And, I'm grateful for all of my friends near and far - through these friendships, I'm truly inspired.

I hope you will join me in taking a moment to give thanks each day!

  3. I love this! Such a great idea to encourage everyone to be grateful. My mother-in-law has a book where everyone writes what they're thankful for each year and it's always fun to go back and read the previous years.
