Making Memories

I'm sorry I haven't written a post since Friday. I have been so so busy around here lately.

Over the weekend we celebrate my niece's 15th birthday. It was a lot of fun and she looked absolutely gorgeous! In our culture we call this ginormous party a Quinceanera. The girl goes from being a little girl to being a lady. During the ceremony we pray for her and she goes from wearing cute little sneakers to wearing her first pair of heels. The whole celebration is completely about her and how much she has grown and how loved she is. The whole thing really was lovely and we enjoyed all the family time.
We have another huge family event we are preparing for coming January. I have been preparing a speech and going through all my old family photos. Looking back on so many memories really tugs at my heart strings. Sometimes as adults we tend to forget the great memories we have of our childhood. We get busy with our new lives that we forget the great times we have had with family and friends. We forget those times that built the character of who we are today. I have lived such precious times with my loved ones and  I appreciate my family so much more today.
I can only hope I give my boys the kind of life to look back on with such love and appreciation. I hope they can look back one day and say, "Mom and dad made such an effort to make our life fun and happy!" Luis and I really do. We talk about it all the time. We pray we are raising them right and making the right choices on parenting. We try our hardest to stop what we are doing and just enjoy them and enjoy each other.
Family really is everything. You may have it all, money, nice clothes, a big house, but those are just things. At the end of the day the most important part is who is there by your side. Those who love you and care about you regardless of the things you have or don't have. I am so grateful for having people around who love and care for me and my boys. I am so grateful for the memories I have of my parents and siblings. This holiday season don't get worked up about presents and things. Make sure you are taking in all the beautiful memories you are making. Stop and enjoy the moment. That's what this time of year is all about!
