Pumpkin Patch

If you follow me on Instagram or my Facebbook page, you might have seen I had the pleasure of being a chaperone on Abram's field trip to the pumpkin patch. I was so excited because I hardly get one on one time with Abram since the other boys were born. It was easier before Josiah was born if Eli napped or I took Abram to the store with me and left Eli home with Luis, but now that rarely happens. So when his teacher asked I said yes! Abram has a peanut and tree nut allergy, so I get pretty paranoid sending him anywhere without me.
We first found out he had a nut allergy when he was a little over 1 year. I gave him a raisin from a trail mix bag I was eating and within about 10 minutes his lips swell up like a balloon! It was very scary, and to top it off Luis was out of town! At the hospital they said it might be a peanut allergy, but we wouldn't know for sure until after he was 3, when they could do an accurate allergy test on him. We steered as clear as possible from nuts after that- until the second encounter, he was 2. We were visiting my dad and they gave him a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie, but little did we know the cookies had been baked on the same cookie sheet where peanut butter cookies had also been baked. Within that hour Abram threw up and said his stomach hurt, so I just thought the cookie was bad. By the time we got home he was covered in hives and crying that he was itchy and his throat was itchy. I realized he was having another reaction so I rushed him to the hospital. Oh and Luis was out of town yet again!
Needless to say I am very very very cautious with Abram now. We carry around his Auvi Q auto injector and have only had to use it 1 time, just recently. Abram is aware of what he can eat and what he can't, so it gives me a bit more confidence while he is at school, but not out and about where he is more exposed.
Back to the field trip. Avila Valley Farms is open year around so we actually take the kids there often to feed the animals, pick apples and sometime get some produce. It was 100 degrees that day and Abram only had fun part of the time. The rest of it, he was complaining about the heat and the flies trying to eat his food. He was not very happy that the class was unable to feed the animals, so he came home saying the trip was boring! Haha. Well I had fun! We went on a hayride and picked pumpkins and best of all I enjoyed time with my first baby! Things may not always be fun for him, but as long as I know he is safe and I get to be there to see him smile- it's fun for me!
Have a wonderful Monday!

  3. Awh I'm so glad you got to spend so much time with him and go to his field trip! My mom has a bad peanut allergy so I totally understand how scary that is! I'm glad nothing terrible ever happened and that every time he had a reaction things turned out ok :) I don't know if this helps but if my mom ever accidentally eats a peanut, she always says ice cream helps her feel better! But sometimes I wonder if she just says that because it's a great excuse to eat ice cream haha :)
